However, while Keane was reaching new heights, its frontman was battling demons behind closed doors; his life had begun to unravel under the weight of addiction.
His drug and alcohol-fueled binges often ended in isolation, with him unable to bring himself to even answer the door sometimes. Instead, he spent long hours at home, crying in front of the television.

“I felt really depressed. I was taking a lot of drugs and drinking,” he recalled. Eventually, this 2000s heartthrob moved back in with his parents, a moment he described as a painful blow.
But even then, the pull of addiction remained strong. “You need to get help,” his bandmate told him. It was a terrifying wake-up call, but only one of many.

Despite his earlier struggles with addiction — which nearly cost him his life — this 2000s heartthrob eventually began to find his footing following rehab and revealed that therapy, which he had been going to for well over a decade, helped shape his life.

He revealed that the pandemic lockdowns also gave him unexpected time to pause and reflect on leaving his “young buck days” behind. “For a lot of people, it was a very reflective time,” he said.
The isolation also brought up thoughts he hadn’t expected to face, and those introspective moments became central themes in his songwriting.
